Professional Certification Programs

Computer programming and system analysis are two of the fastest growing occupations in Florida and throughout the United States. The Bureau of Labor Statistics ranks both in its top five list of fastest growing positions. A recent survey by the Information Technology Association of America estimated that 10% of the Information Technology jobs nationwide are unfilled. This means there is a high demand for professionals with these skills.

Employees often measure the caliber of job candidates by the certifications they have earned. A certification is an internationally recognized credential from a high-tech company or organization such as Microsoft or ICCP (Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals). When you earn a certification, it means that you have proven skills in the computer programming and analysis field, and in a specific company's products. Certifications are earned by passing a certification exam. The tests measure your abilities in, and knowledge of, a field and product.

Earning a certification is becoming a vital step for those entering a technology field. They can:

• Help determine the type of opportunities for which you qualify.
• Increase your starting or current salary.
• Increase your chances of being offered a position or promotion.
• Provide a greater possibility for career growth.

Both students and professionals are seeking certifications as a part of their career path. To help meet this need, and the business needs of our community, SCC offers several professional certification programs in Computer Programming and Analysis. The programs are designed to help you prepare for a certification exam.

Programs include:

• Microsoft MCP(Microsoft Certified Professional) and MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solution Developer)
• Sun Microsystems Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform
• ICCP CCP (Certified Computing Professional)

You can choose between two program options:

• You can take courses that help you prepare for a certification exam as credits towards an A.S. degree
• You can take courses to help you prepare for an exam without being in the A.S. degree program.

Certification exams can be taken at the SCC Professional Testing and Certification Center.

The courses that Seminole Community College provides as part of its professional certification programs are designed to help students prepare for a certification exam. To earn a certification, the student must pass the exam. Passing the courses does not guarantee that the student will pass the exam.
