The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJ-BAT)

The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test measures students' visual, reasoning, memorization and language skills (corrections and law enforcement versions only). This is a mandatory entrance exam for the Corrections or Law Enforcement Academy - no exceptions.

The fee to take the CJ-BAT is $40. A study guide, I/O Solutions, is available in the SCC Bookstore.

When taking the CJ-BAT, students must:

  • Register and pay for the exam at least 24 hours prior to test time in Room A-107 on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus;
  • Pass the test with a score of at least 72 percent before entering into the Corrections Academy; and
  • Pass the test with a score of at least 79 percent before entering into the Law Enforcement Academy.

 Students may test during the following hours (computer-based testing):

Monday9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
TuesdayNoon-4:30 p.m.
Wednesday10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Thursday10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Friday 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Reservation and payment is required to reserve a testing timeslot. Students must complete the test within 2.5 hours. For more information, call 407.708.2393.
