Public Safety Training Complex and Driving Track at the SCC Geneva Center

Preparing Students and Law Enforcement Personnel to Protect and Serve.

Seminole Community College's Geneva Center is now home to Seminole County's only fully operational Public Safety Training Complex and Driving Track.

All the law enforcement officers in Seminole County – more than 1,000 – will train at the Center at least once a year. Another 200 SCC criminal justice students will use the facility this year.

For years, Seminole County law enforcement officers and SCC students train in closed parking lots or at police academies in other counties. SCC identified a need for an improved, convenient training facility and partnered with Seminole County and the cities of Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, Lake Mary, Longwood, Oviedo, Sanford and Winter Springs in 2005 to develop the Geneva Center.

Together, the County and cities donated more than $250,000 to help fund the new classroom building at Geneva, funds that were matched by the state.

The new 4,950-square-foot classroom building at the Geneva Center replaces a single portable classroom. It includes two classrooms, three offices and storage space. Two identical buildings are scheduled to be constructed at Geneva over the next five years, which will add an additional 10,000 square feet to the Center.

A quarter-mile drive course will train officers and students in emergency vehicle and driving techniques. The track is also being used for more advanced PIT training, also known as Precision Immobilization Technique.

The Geneva Center also includes a gun range, which opened in 1994.

The Geneva Center is just one of the ways SCC is investing in its public service programs. Construction began in summer 2008 on the Center for Public Safety at SCC's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. The building will bring the College's Criminal Justice, Fire Science and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Programs together at one prominent location on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. It will also allow SCC to enlarge the size of its Public Safety Program, with expanded training and classroom space.
