Admission Requirements

SCC is a Florida approved training center for police officer certification. We have successfully prepared future law enforcement officers since 1969. Our success, in part, is due to our strict adherence to state requirements and regulations.

To be eligible for a criminal justice program, you must:

  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Have no felony or misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statements and moral turpitude
  • Have been honorably discharged from military service (if applicable)
  • Have a valid Florida Driver's License
You must complete following steps:

Step I

Must meet SCC Criminal Justice Institute Academy entrance requirements as listed.

Step II

Complete a Seminole Community College application for Admission. All applicants will complete the CJ-BAT test and obtain the required grade level score as indicated below:

CJ-BAT Test

  • Cost: $40
  • Passing Score: (as of October 1, 2007)
  • Corrections 72 percent
  • Law Enforcement 79 percent

The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities test is a Criminal Justice entrance exam based on visual, reasoning, memorization and language skills.

Applicants should register for the CJ-BAT tests in room A-107 at the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

The CJ-BAT for Law Enforcement and Corrections Officers consists of 120 multiple-choice questions and you will be given 2.5 hours to complete. You will receive your score at the completion of testing.

Step III

Upon successful completion of the CJ-BAT, the applicant will return to the Criminal Justice Institute with a copy of their test scores and receive a Personal History Information and Medical History Questionnaire Packet and DMV Driving History Request form.

Personal History Information and Medical History Questionnaire will be completed and notarized, and returned to the Criminal Justice Institute.

The Medical History Questionnaire must be completed by the examining Physician. The cost of the Physical Examination will be at the applicant's own expense.

*The test results will be mailed to the CJI at SCC.
Step IV

All applicants will complete and pass a drug test screening process prior to acceptance into the Criminal Justice Institute. Cost - $ 35. Drug Testing Facility: The Grove Counseling Center Inc., Driftwood Villages, 3525 West Lake Mary Boulevard, Suite 301/302, Lake Mary, FL 32746, 407.327.1765.

Step V

Upon completion of Steps I - IV, each applicant will bring in their completed Personal History Information and Medical History Questionnaire Packet to the Criminal Justice Office. An appointment will be set for an interview with the Program Manager or Director for acceptance into the Academy Program.

Applications must be completed in full before being submitted.

Background Check - Will be conducted at the time of interview with the Criminal Justice Director or Program Manager. All applicants will be fingerprinted and personal information obtained will be forwarded to FDLE and to the FBI for background verification. Cost: $53.25.
