A.A. degree and A.S. degree

Which one is right for you?

At SCC you'll find several options for your academic future; like earning an Associate in Arts degree, Associate in Science degree or a career certificate. Which one is right for you?

What is an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree?

An Associate of Arts (A.A.) program is a two-year course of study that covers the core materials needed to complete the first two years of a four-year bachelor's degree. The A.A. program for each area parallels the State University System's curriculum. The credits that you earn at SCC can be transferred to a four-year college or university of your choice. The A.A. degree is the credential earned when you have successfully completed your two-year course of study.

After earning an A.A. degree, students are guaranteed acceptance to one of Florida's twelve universities.

Earning an A.A. degree at SCC offers the following benefits:

  • The cost of the A.A. degree program is about half of the cost of the first two years in a four-year college or university.
  • Smaller class sizes allow teachers to assist the student when needed.
  • SCC students that transfer into a four-year college or university perform better academically than third year university students.

What is an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree?

The Associate in Science (A.S.) program can be one or two years long, depending on your chosen course of study. A.S. programs provide you with the knowledge necessary to perform and excel in a particular profession. Some of the credits earned in an A.S. degree program can be transferred to a four-year college or university.

The A.S. degree is the credential earned when you have successfully completed your one- or two-year course of study.

Earning an A.S. degree at SCC is ideal if:

  • After graduation, you wish to work in your chosen field.
  • You are considering continuing your education in the future.

Certificate programs

Many of today's high-paying, high-demand careers don't require a college degree. In fact, some of the hottest jobs in Orlando, or the southeast for that matter, can be yours upon completing a comprehensive certificate-training program. These programs blend classroom instruction and practical, real-world training-often in the actual work-environment.
