SCC Theatre Program receives grant from Darden FoundationSeminole Community College recently received a $25,000 grant that will be used to help expand access to SCC's theatre program, as well as enhance the remainder of the 2007-08 theatre season. The grant, awarded by the Darden Foundation, will help fund an advertising and marketing campaign, as well as expand the guest artist participation in upcoming productions and enhance the spectator's experience with the addition of two hearing impaired signed performances. The gift, eligible for state match, will also help fund the development and cultivation of a "Friends of the Theatre Program" initiative, designed to increase community awareness of the SCC theatre program, as well as honor its supporters. "We wish to thank the Darden Foundation for this exciting opportunity to enhance our program, and to carry our message throughout central Florida," Paul Luby, SCC Fine Arts department chair said. "SCC is the place to learn, practice and experience great theatre art." SCC has three more shows slated for its 2007-08 theatre season, August Wilson's classic Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, which will open in late January. In March, SCC is proud to welcome The Center for Contemporary Dance, Central Florida's premier humanitarian-centered professional dance company, to the SCC stage for a limited engagement performance of VOW: Voices of Women. SCC will close the season with Moliere's classic comedy Tartuffe, directed by SCC's own Bobbie Bell, which will open in April. Theatre prices are $6 for the general public, $5 for seniors (55+) or students of other schools and free to SCC faculty, staff and currently enrolled SCC students. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 407.708.2040. |
