SCC Foundation holds 25th annual Dream Cup Challenge golf tournament
The SCC Foundation welcomed 33 teams of business leaders and College supporters to its 25th annual Dream Cup Challenge golf tournament, held Monday, April 14, at Tuscawilla Country Club.
To kick off the tournament, SCC President Dr. E. Ann McGee presented the Mack Blythe Outstanding Freshman Athlete of the Year Award to the College's top male and female freshman athlete. The $500 awards, presented annually, recognize students who excel on the field and in the classroom.
The winners were:
- Tye Buckley, 18, a southpaw pitcher from Tallahassee. Buckley leads the Raiders baseball team in sacrifice bunts and is batting .338 with a slugging percentage of .471. Academically he has a 3.3 GPA and plans to major in engineering.
- Suzanne Ervin, 18, of Schertz, Texas, who has helped lead the women's golf team in its first season. Ervin has had five top 10 finishes in seven events this year. She holds a 4.0 grade point average and plans to major in business.
The award is named for Mack Blythe, a former chair of the SCC Business Department, who founded the golf tournament 25 years ago.
The foursome of Tim Slattery, Nick Frontero, Todd Cluxton and Nick Franz from Citizens Bank won the tournament.
Matt Hodge, executive director of the SCC Foundation, said the Dream Cup Challenge is a chance to bring SCC supporters together for a fun day, while helping to raise scholarship money for students. "It's also a way to thank the donors who attended the Foundation's Dream Auction in February," Hodge said.
The tournament, along with SCC's annual Dream Auction, raised nearly $200,000 for scholarships and other areas of need.
