Admission Requirements
What Does It Take? Honors Diploma and Certificate Programs: - Apply and be accepted to Seminole Community College.
- Graduate from high school with at least a 3.2 GPA; and
- Score a minimum of 23 on the ACT; 1050 on the SAT (new SAT: 1050 math and reading OR 1050 on math and writing scores); OR at least 95 and 75 on the CPT reading and math tests; or
- Earn at least a 3.2 GPA in six hours of college-credit classes.
Science Merit Diploma and Science Diploma Programs:- Apply and be accepted to Seminole Community College.
- Be a student who is committed to following a rigorous course of study leading to a major or career in the hard sciences, health fields or engineering
- Submit a letter of request for scholarship assistance with documentation of having at least a 3.2 GPA or at least a 25 on ACT or at least an 1100 on the SAT (new SAT: at least 1100 on math and reading or 1100 on math and writing)
How Do I Apply?- Schedule an appointment with:
- Dr. Laura Ross, Director of the Art & Phyllis Grindle Honors Institute, at 407.708.2335;
- Dr. Debbie Socci, Oviedo Coordinator, at 407.971.5077; or
- Prof. Deborah Mead, Science Diploma Coordinator, at 407.708.2208.
- Submit the following materials to the Honors Director:
- A completed Honors Institute application;
- Two letters of reference (from previous English, humanities, mathematics or science instructors);
- A high school transcript and placement scores or SCC transcript; and
- An on-site writing sample for the Honors Diploma or Honors Certificate Programs.
Remaining in HonorsOnce admitted to the Art & Phyllis Grindle Honors Institute, with the constant encouragement and assistance of the Honors Coordinator and faculty, students take on a number of responsibilities to remain in good standing in the Program. Student Obligations and Responsibilities:
- Register for Honors Courses each semester;
- Maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA;
- Renew Honors Scholarships every term;
- Withdraw from no more than one class; students risk losing scholarships if they withdraw from more than one class;
- Participate in Honors functions;
- Attend one Leadership Conference, sponsored by the Student Government Association; and
- Students conduct themselves with honor and integrity at all times. Plagiarism and other forms of misconduct are grounds for dismissal from the Program.
* Students who fail to maintain the required GPA will be placed on probation for one semester and will lose scholarship money. Full status as an Honors student will be restored if the student's GPA meets the requirement after the probationary period is completed.
