What is the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS)?

The CASAS is for students whose native language is not English. It measures English skills in:

  • Reading
  • Listening

Who should take the CASAS Test?

The State of Florida requires students to take admissions or placement tests before entering a program. The test you take depends on the program you want to enter. If you are entering the ESOL program as a U.S. citizen or resident alien, you should take the CASAS test. The CASAS test meets the State's requirement for students entering an ESOL program.

CASAS is not an admissions test. You can enroll in ESOL not matter what score you earn.

SCC uses the CASAS score to:

  • Determine your English skill level, which will reveal what program level you should begin your studies. Beginning at the right level is critical to learning English; and
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses. At SCC, we want you to succeed. By knowing what areas you need help in, your instructors can work with you to strengthen your skills in those areas.

What do I do if I haven't taken the CASAS?

You can take the CASAS exam year-round at SCC. For exam dates and times, contact SCC's ESOL Student Services Department at:

  • The Sanford/Lake Mary Campus: 407.708.2420
  • The Altamonte Springs Campus: 407.404.6002
  • The Oviedo Campus: 407.971.5016

How can I get more information about the CASAS?
